Latin American Studies

In addition to the common requirements for a regional concentration, students who wish to concentrate in Latin American Studies are required to spend at least one semester at a Washington College abroad program in Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Argentina, Peru or Mexico, or its equivalent in consultation with the Director of International Studies. The Latin American Studies language requirement may be fulfilled at Washington College with Spanish. Students with a strong interest in Brazil may fulfill the language requirement with Portuguese preparatory to spending a semester or academic year in that country. Students are required to take at least one course from List A and one course from List B below OR two courses from List A. Students must also take three courses on Latin America at an approved Washington College abroad program.

Special Topics courses dealing with Latin America not listed above may also be offered at Washington College, and can be counted for List B credit. These may represent a single discipline or they may be interdisciplinary in nature.
